Music supervisors Paul Katz and Alexandra Patsavas have claimed that choosing songs from big artists, plus smaller acts such as Fanfarlo and Bombay Bicycle Club, doesn’t stem from an attempt to cash in on bands’ cool factors.
“We have forward-thinking directors and they have a progressive music taste,” Patsavas said. “It’s completely natural.”
Katz said that they saw introducing new acts as an important part of fans’ engagement with the albums. “It’s about the best piece of music for the scene,” he said. “But we do like the role of introducing new acts. We have Eastern Conference Champions, who we’ll be introducing.”
Patsavas said an important factor was the tone of each scene. “This is the battle movie,” she said of Eclipse. “So there should be some conflict in the music, so we have a band like The Dead Weather there.”
